TRUMAN CAPOTE'S PERSONAL COPY! "Music for Chameleons" was the great Truman Capote's last published work before he died. The book was published in 1980. His previous was "In Cold Blood" in 1966! To celebrate his publication, he had 50 copies specially bound and printed exclusively for his friends. While he signed these copies and gave them to friends, he kept the copy that is here for himself. This is his own personal copy with his library stamp on the slipcase cover and inside of the book. This means, that this is the PERSONAL copy of the LAST book published by Truman Capote, an amazing literary treasure. The very special 50 copies have some issue points that make them easy to identify. The slipcase was a light beige and not the dark brown that accompanied the later "first edition". There is an extra blank page where the regular signed page of the limited first edition would be. Also, the number line did count down to 2 as was Random House's policy at the time (Ahearn). It is also stated on the copyright page as a First Edition. The beige slipcase has a slight smudge on the front but that is the only flaw - it is in near fine condition. It has strong corners and shows very, very well. The book has never been read and is in fine condition. On the cover of the slipcase and on one of the first blank pages, Truman Capote put his personal blue stamp stating that this book belonged to him and was part of his private library! His last published work before his death - less than 4 years later. A best seller. Only 50 copies specially bound for him to give to his close friends, and finally, this one, his personal copy! Please inquire for additional photographs.
